Briefs: Local students get UT Tyler honors, Kilgore library plans kids hobby fair
Mar. 23—Local students earn honors at UT Tyler
Several Kilgore and Overton students were among more than 1,400 students who were recognized for academic achievement in fall 2020 at the University of Texas at Tyler.
President's Honor Roll students were: Hilda Baldazo, Jasleen Cabrera, Averi Botter, Erica Martinez, Sandra Martinez, Jessica Stokes, Cielo Hernandez, Sandra Vazquez, Kaitlyn House, Jazmin Fryxell, Troy Jones, Abby Truman, Leah Reid and Karley Sheets, of Kilgore; and Trevor Vandoren, Landon Carpenter and Tyler Russell, of Overton.
To qualify for the President's Honor Roll, a student must have completed 12 or more semester hours with an "A" in all courses. To qualify for the university Dean's List, a student must have completed 12 or more semester hours with a grade point average of at least 3.75.
Dean's List students were: Bridges Gibbs, Jessica Parsons, Kaitlin Word, Benjamin Peralez and Trisha Pradhan, of Kilgore; and Brayden Lee, Justin Daily and Luke Higginbotham, of Overton.
Kilgore Public Library plans Kids Hobby Fair
The Kilgore Public Library will host a Kids Hobby Fair for those aged 5-17 beginning April 5 through April 30.
Students who want to participate are asked to bring displays of scientific experiments, arts and crafts, collecting, sports, or performing arts. Participants will be entered into weekly prize drawings.
The start date to bring displays is April 5, with the deadline to stop bringing displays April 9 at 4 p.m. Pick up displays April 26-30, and any items that are not picked up will be considered a donation.
Displays should be creative, not wider than 22 inches and not contain anything that is special or valuable to the entrant. Do not bring food items; the library says to take a picture instead.

Kilgore High School Prom Committee hosts fern sale
The Kilgore High School Prom Committee is taking orders for its annual fern sale, with proceeds benefitting the prom.
To order a Texas porch fern, see a prom committee member. Ferns are $17 each and orders must be paid for by March 31. Delivery day is April 15..
