Fire damages Mansfield home; 4 cats rescued

A basement fire caused about $7,000 in damages Tuesday morning to the residence at 836 Forest Drive.

Mansfield firefighters rescued four cats during the fire that was called in at 8:42 a.m. They were on the scene until just before 11 a.m. There was smoke damage throughout the house but no injuries.

No cause has been determined for the fire, which remains under investigation.

Ramp closures starting Monday on US 30 in Mansfield

The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced several U.S. 30 ramps will close next week for pavement repairs.

The U.S. 30 east exit ramp to Laver Road will close Monday for two days. The detour is to continue on U.S. 30 east to Reed Road, south on Reed Road to Ohio 430, and then west on Ohio 430 to Laver Road. The entrance ramp from Laver Road to U.S. 30 east will also close Monday for two days. The detour is to take Ohio 430 east to Reed Road north and use the Reed Road entrance ramp to U.S. 30 east. Both ramps are expected to reopen Tuesday.

The U.S. 30 west exit ramp to Laver Road will close Tuesday for two days. The detour is to continue on U.S. 30 west to U.S. 42, north on U.S. 42 to Crider Road, and east on Crider Road to Laver Road. The Laver Road entrance ramp to U.S. 30 west will also close Tuesday for two days. The detour is to take Crider Road west to U.S. 42 south and use the U.S. 42 entrance ramp to U.S. 30 west. ODOT expects both ramps to be reopened on Wednesday.

Friends of the Library to hold monthly used book sale this week

The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library Evergreen Bookshop will be open for the monthly Friends’ Used Book Sale from noon to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. A preview sale will be held for Friends of the Library members only from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday. Memberships may be purchased at Thursday’s preview sale at a cost of $3 per year for individuals.

This month the Friends’ Bookstore features a Christmas in July sale. All Christmas items are priced at 50% off.

This sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library. Materials (adult, teen and juvenile items) are library discards and public donations offered for sale at extremely low pricing. The bookshop is stocked with “new to the store” items each month. Proceeds from the monthly sales sponsor enrichment activities provided by the Main Library and its eight branches throughout the year.

Evergreen Bookshop is in downtown Mansfield at 37 N. Walnut St. (corner of West Third and North Walnut Streets next to the Main Library).
