NAACP in-person town hall meeting set for Oct. 24

In the past, the Mansfield Branch NAACP under the leadership of the late Wayne McDowell, criminal justice chair, had annual town hall meetings in collaboration with the Cleveland EEOC. NAACP is pleased to announce that current Criminal Justice Chair Alomar Davenport is resuming town hall meetings.

The first one will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library, 43 W. Third St. This will be an opportunity for the community to hear introductions and overviews from Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) about services offered, including compliance assistance, outreach and education. Personnel from the EEOC, OFCCP and NAACP will be on hand to answer questions.

Road closings, traffic changes next week

Ganges-Five Points Road, between Bricker Road and Amoy-Ganges Road in Franklin Township, will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday. Mansfield-Lucas Road, between Rummel Road and Washington North Road in Monroe Township, will be closed 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Also, traffic on U.S. 30 westbound, between Bowman Street and Ohio 309, will be switched into its permanent traffic pattern around 7 p.m. Monday. This shift will require intermittent ramp closures of the U.S. 30 westbound entrance and exit ramps at Ohio 39 and Trimble Road.

OhioHealth Cancer Care begins transplant phase of blood and marrow transplant program

COLUMBUS — OhioHealth Cancer Care has opened phase two of its new Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) program with its first transplant this week. The outpatient program was launched on April 4, 2022.

BMT is a process where non-functioning, deficient bone marrow or cancerous cells are eliminated by chemotherapy and/or radiation and then replaced by new, healthy cells. The ultimate goal is for a cure or at least to control the disease.

The program is available systemwide to all eligible patients at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital and OhioHealth Arthur G.H. Bing, MD, Cancer Center.
