Mansfield Police Department awarded RecoveryOhio funding

COLUMBUS — Nearly three dozen local drug task forces in Ohio are receiving state support for their work to disrupt the drug trade and promote substance use awareness, prevention and recovery. Among the recipients is the Mansfield Police Department, which was awarded $192,608.

Over $2.4 million in grants from Gove. Mike DeWine’s RecoveryOhio Law Enforcement Fund will be awarded among 32 existing drug task forces to help them identify high-level drug traffickers, dismantle large drug trafficking organizations, interrupt the flow of money and drugs from international cartels, and prevent the sale of illegal narcotics to those suffering from substance use disorder.

Grant funding will also be used to increase substance use and mental health awareness, implement age-appropriate prevention education in schools, connect those who need help with treatment, and promote recovery.

Originally created by the Jaycees, this iconic pond has been an integral part of Crestline for more than 50 years, providing recreational activities such as fishing, ice skating, and picnicking for residents and visitors alike. While swimming is prohibited, efforts are being made to enhance the pond's accessibility, including the addition of parking and the implementation of handicapped accessibility for fishing.

The rehabilitation project began in late June and is expected to be completed in the fall. All the funding for this is coming from private donations.

"I am thrilled by the progress made in the Jaycees Pond rehabilitation,” said Crestline Mayor Linda Horning-Pitt. “It honors our heritage while creating a thriving community for residents. The revitalized pond will be a cherished gathering place, reflecting our commitment to accessibility and creating lasting memories. Grateful for all contributors, I eagerly anticipate the positiveimpact on Crestline.”

Ohio state parks host Arts in the Parks

COLUMBUS — The Arts in the Parks summer workshop series — a partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), the Ohio Arts Council (OAC), and Great Ohio Lodges — brings state park visitors together with seven Ohio teaching artists to create engaging experiences. Workshops will offer an array of activities including creating art from recyclables, writing poetry, and even decorating Ukrainian eggs. Participating locations include Mohican, Burr Oak, Deer Creek, Salt Fork and Shawnee state park lodges.

The series will be offered to guests of the lodge as well as those who want to visit for the class.

Artist workshops at Mohican State Park Lodge begin this Friday through Sunday with artist Kimberly Crislip Jarvis, "Dancing from the Inside-Out." Participants will learn basic dance, share the songs they love to listen and dance to, and form fresh habits with routines that increase strength and agility for the daily life.

Other artists workshops at Mohican will take place Aug. 11-13, Aug. 25-27 and Sept. 1-3.
