Annual Summer Manufacturing Institute Camp set for July

NECIC along with the Regional Manufacturing Coalition and EPIK will host the sixth annual Summer Manufacturing Institute Camp as part of Sen. Sherrod Brown's call to engage Ohio's youth with local manufacturing activities and opportunities in their home county. The week-long camp will be held at the NECIC Community Outreach Center, 486 Springmill St., from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 17-21. This free camp is open to all Richland County fourth through ninth grade students.

This year, the camp will focus on how businesses use digital technologies to improve their manufacturing businesses and the skills students need to fill these high-paying positions and build lifelong careers. Participants will do hands-on projects and tour local companies.

Registration will open May 31 on necic-ohio.org. For more information, contact Nyasha Oden at 419-522-1611 ext. 122 or nyasha@necic-ohio.org.

Former Buckeyes to attend the Doug Castle Legacy Fund benefit dinner

Richland County Foundation President Brady Groves will be the guest speaker at the Doug Castle Legacy Fund benefit dinner at 5:30 p.m. on June 23 at Kingwood Center Gardens. Proceeds will go to the Doug Castle Legacy Fund of the Richland County Foundation for community grants. Tickets are $45 and are available on Eventbrite.

Former Ohio State Football players running back Antonio Pittman, defensive tackle Doug Worthington and offensive guard Ben Person will be at the benefit dinner to meet and greet guests.

Since its inception in 2018, the Doug Castle Legacy Fund has awarded three college scholarships to Mansfield Senior High School graduates. This year the Doug Castle Legacy Fund awarded grants to the North End Community Improvement Collaborative for its new community center and to the Blessed to Run Track organization for scholarships for student athletes.

During the program, three people will be recognized for their service and dedication to the athletic programs at Mansfield City Schools and their names will be added to the Castle Wall at Arlin Field.
