Many Shades of Pink to host Breast Cancer Awareness Celebration on Saturday

Many Shades of Pink in celebrating breast cancer survivors and promoting early detection as part of October Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Many Shades of Pink (MSOP) was established in 2014 by breast cancer survivor Wahnita Johnson and represents all races and stages of breast cancer.The Many Shades of Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Celebration will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Friendly House, 380 S. Mulberry St., Mansfield. The free event, open to the public, will feature a complimentary soup and salad luncheon and a performance by the McCruter Family.

The keynote speaker will be Mansfield native Chris Hahn, actor, former WWE/WWF wrestler and personal trainer. Hahn will share his inspirational story of hope and resilience. Also speaking will be Dr. Blessing Nollah, the medical director from Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center in Mansfiel;, Catholic Charities Case Manager Laurie Hamrick; Pam Warner from OhioHealth, and Rhonda Breit, chairwoman of the Pat Kracker Breast Cancer Fund.

'Rent' takes center stage at the Renaissance Theatre

'"Rent" — the iconic rock opera by Jonathan Larson — will be performed at the Renaissance Theatre Oct. 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15.

What sets this production apart is its "stage-on-stage" presentation, allowing the audience to experience the show from unique vantage points. Limited floor seating is available along with seats in the regular Renaissance house.

The Renaissance has also partnered with the National AIDS Memorial to display a portion of the AIDS Memorial Quilt in the theater's lobby throughout the duration of the show to reinforce the show's message of remembrance and resilience.

Ashland dental clinic to mark its third anniversary

ASHLAND — Ninth Street Dental celebrated three years as part of the Third Street Family Health Services network of care on Wednesday. The clinic was founded by longtime local healthcare advocate Dorothy Stratton and her husband.

The facility merged with Third Street in 2020. Earlier that year, the organization opened its Ashland Health & Wellness Center. Third Street expanded into the Ashland area to help bridge healthcare gaps and give those in need access to affordable, quality primary and dental care services.

During a special luncheon Wednesday, Third Street presented a recognition plaque to Ninth Street Dental employees.

Richland Rural Life Center to host chicken dinner fundraiser

The Richland Rural Life Center at 969 E. Crall Road in Mansfield will host its annual chicken dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The dinner includes slow-roasted chicken, buttered parsley potatoes or Au gratin potatoes, slaw salad or applesauce and dinner roll, beverage and a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream.

Adult meals are $12 for half chicken; seniors and children (10 and under) are $7 for a quarter chicken. Carry-out meals are available and extra chicken halves are $5 each. Homemade ice cream quarts are available for $5.

Proceeds will go toward facility maintenance for use by Boy Scouts and 4-H.
