Briefs: Marion Patrol Post announces Trooper of the Year
Three-year veteran of the Ohio State Highway Patrol named Marion's top trooper
Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Matthias L. Carson has been selected 2022 Trooper of the Year at the Marion Post.
The selection of Trooper Carson, 25, is in recognition of outstanding service during 2022 at the Marion Post. Fellow officers stationed at the Marion Post chose Carson based on his leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude, and cooperation with supervisors, peers and the public.
Carson joined the Highway Patrol in 2019. He has been assigned to the Marion Post throughout his career. He is originally from Columbus and graduated from Ohio Virtual Academy. Trooper Carson received three commendation letters and has received the Health and Physical Fitness Award.
Classic Christmas movie at the Palace Theatre this weekend
The movie "Elf" will be shown on the big screen at Marion Palace Theatre Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. plus 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday. In addition, there will be a sensory friendly showing of "Elf" at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
The holiday fun will continue next weekend with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound "A Jazzy Little Christmas" on Dec. 17 and another classic Christmas movie, "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16 and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 18.

New partnership to provide COVID-19 testing assistance for Ohioans who are blind or have low vision
COLUMBUS — At-home COVID-19 tests have become the standard method of testing; however, individuals who are blind or have low vision face challenges self-administering these tests. The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) have partnered to identify a solution to support Ohioans who are blind or have low vision in self-administering at-home COVID-19 tests.
Ohio residents can now call a state-sponsored support line through the Be My Eyes phone app to receive assistance taking any at-home COVID-19 test authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), by downloading the free Be My Eyes app for Apple or Android smartphones. Once on the app, the user should select “State of Ohio COVID Testing” and will be connected to an experienced customer support representative from Accessible Pharmacy Services. The customer support representative can help individuals read print information or instruction, provide step-by-step guidance while taking the test an read the results of the completed test.
This service is available to receive calls 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
