Marion college student takes top honor at OSU-ATI

WOOSTER — Lillian Wagner of Marion is the recipient of the 2023 Director’s Award, given to the Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute’s most outstanding student. She will graduate Saturday with an associate of science degree in agriscience education. As recipient of the Director’s Award, she will deliver the student address at Ohio State ATI’s 50th commencement.

Wagner earned dean’s list honors in each of her semesters at ATI. Wagner is the recipient of numerous scholarships, including the Ohio State ATI Scholarship.

Wagner has been active with organizations such as the Agricultural Communicators, Educators and Leaders of Tomorrow Club, for which she served as president; Ohio State ATI Ambassador; Ohio Association of Agricultural Educators; and the Marion County Jr. Fair Board, for which she serves as an adviser.

Following graduation, Wagner will transition to Columbus to complete a bachelor's degree with the goal of becoming an agriculture teacher.

Senior Spring Extravaganza set

ONTARIO — The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging will hold a Senior Spring Extravaganza at 10 a.m. May 11 at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield.

The free event is held in recognition of Older Americans Month and offers entertainment, refreshments, resources, information regarding aging issues and door prizes. This year's event will include a classic car show, entertainer Randy Velez, lunch, bingo and more.

Monthly church breakfast is Saturday

Trinity Lutheran Church, 4535 Smeltzer Road, will host its monthly community breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the educational building at the rear of the church. The menu will consist of sausage gravy and biscuits, bacon, sausage, eggs, hash browns, pancakes, Danish, milk, juice and coffee

The cost is a suggested $7 donation.

Walmart offers free health screenings Saturday

Walmart will hold its a Wellness Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Customers can receive free health screenings for things such as glucose, cholesterol, BMI and blood pressure, as well as immunizations such as flu, COVID-19, shingles, tetanus, measles and others at pharmacies nationwide.

Select stores will feature vision screenings, giveaways and demos of wellness products, and customers can sample products including digestive supplements, vitamins and nutrition items at select locations.
