The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) has announced the finalists for its 2023 Awards of Excellence, which underscore the association’s priorities and brings national visibility to promising practices among its member colleges.

Dr. Ryan McCall is one of five finalists for CEO of the Year. Among the other finalists is Dorey Diab, president of North Central State College in Mansfield.

Winners will be announced at the Awards of Excellence Gala on April 3 in Denver. A complete list of the finalists for the Awards of Excellence can be found at ccdaily.com.

Health Department to be closed next Friday

Due to a staff in-service/training, Marion Public Health will be closed on Jan. 27.

The closing will affect the administration, WIC, vital statistics, environmental health, nursing, and emergency preparedness divisions. Marion Public Health will resume normal business hours of 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 30.

Motorcycle Ohio course registration opens next week

COLUMBUS — Ohioans who wish to learn what it takes to ride a motorcycle safely and responsibly can sign up for rider courses online beginning Monday. Training courses through Motorcycle Ohio begin as early as March and run through early November. The state has more than 600,000 endorsed riders, making Ohio one of the largest states for total ridership.

The Motorcycle Ohio program, offered by the Ohio Department of Public Safety, provides different levels of motorcycle safety courses for riders based on their skill levels and objectives. Funded by motorcycle plate fees and class registrations, Motorcycle Ohio strives to provide affordable, effective education programs at just $50 per course that includes the cost of student workbooks. Students must have a validated motorcycle temporary permit before the first riding session. Upon successful completion of any course, the student will earn a 60-day Bureau of Motor Vehicles skill test waiver for a motorcycle license or endorsement.Motorcycle Ohio courses are being taught at 36 training sites around Ohio.
