Area state lawmaker to head key committee

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Riordan McClain (R-Upper Sandusky) Monday was named chairman of the Ohio House of Representatives Transportation Committee.

McClain was appointed to serve by Speaker Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill). He also was appointed to the Agriculture, Technology & Innovation and Ways & Means committees.

McClain is serving his third full term in the Ohio House of Representatives. He represents the 87th House District, which includes all of Crawford, Morrow and Wyandot counties and a portion of Marion County.

Council on Aging to offering variety of activities this month

The Crawford County Council on Aging has a packed calendar of activities for February.

New this month is a charcuterie board class at 2 p.m. Friday at the Council on Aging. Registration is required to attend.

Activities at the Crestline Community Center include Be My Valentine Bingo at 2 p.m. Tuesday. A social hour with valentine treats will start at 1 p.m. Crestline Senior Social Club will be 1-3 p.m. Feb. 21, featuring cards, board games and free pizza. Crestline’s canvas painting class will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 28. Class fee is $6; members pay $3. This class will also be offered in Bucyrus 1-3 p.m. Feb. 16.

Seniors may attend the I Heart Music Social 1-3 p.m. Monday at the Council on Aging. The event features karaoke and valentine drinks and treats.

Bucyrus bingo will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 23. Hot dogs will be served at 1 p.m. Fitness classes continue in February with chair exercises at 10 a.m. Mondays and low impact cardio at 10 a.m. Fridays. Film Fridays also continue with movies shown at 1 p.m.

Red Cross seeks donors for February blood drives

As the American Red Cross continues to monitor seasonal challenges that could impact the blood supply, donors are urged to make and keep appointments to help prevent a shortage in the weeks to come. Donors of all blood types and platelet donors are needed daily to meet demand.

All who come to give in February will get a $10 Amazon.com Gift Card by email. Those who come to donate this month also will automatically be entered to win a trip for two to Clearwater Beach, Florida.

There are three upcoming bloodmobiles scheduled in Crawford County, including two on Thursday at Crestline and Northmor high schools along with another blood drive Tuesday at Galion Alliance Church.
