Briefs: METRICH awarded grant to target drug traffickers

Local drug task force to receive RecoveryOhio funding

COLUMBUS — METRICH is one of more than two dozen local drug task forces in Ohio to receive state support for their work to disrupt the drug trade and promote substance use awareness, prevention and recovery. METRICH — which serves Ashland, Crawford, Hancock, Huron, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Seneca and Wyandot counties — will receive $124,191.

Nearly $2.3 million in grants from Gov. Mike DeWine’s RecoveryOhio Law Enforcement Fund will be awarded among 30 existing drug task forces to help them identify high-level drug traffickers, dismantle large drug trafficking organizations, interrupt the flow of money and drugs from international cartels, and prevent the sale of illegal narcotics to those suffering from substance use disorder.

Grant funding will also be used to support the mission of the RecoveryOhio initiative, which aims to increase substance use and mental health awareness, implement age-appropriate prevention education in schools, connect those who need help with treatment and promote recovery.

Kingston Residence of Marion commemorates National Assisted Living Week

National Assisted Living Week kicks off Sunday and Kingston Residence of Marion is joining tens of thousands of assisted living communities across the country to mark the observance. This year's theme is "Joyful Moments."

Bob Goyer, community relations director at Kingston, says residents and staff will be celebrating all week long and there will be posts on Facebook for family and friends to see.

National Assisted Living Week was created by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995 to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The annual observance inspires assisted living communities around the country to offer a variety of events and activities to celebrate the individuals they serve, as well as to help educate members of the public about this distinct aspect of long term care.
