Mid-Ohio ESC Board welcomes two new members

The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center selected new members for the Board of Governors and elected the president and vice president. The appointments were approved Wednesday at the organizational meeting. Douglas Theaker was appointed board president, while Glenna Plotts was selected vice president.

New members were appointed to replace Dick Prater and Margie Prater. Erin Stine has over 10 years of directorial, community, economic and project management experience. Bill Hope previously served on the board from 2006-2012. He is the owner of two small businesses.

In honor of Ohio School Board Appreciation Month, each board member was presented with a certificate of commendation. The board also agreed 2023 regular meetings will be held at noon on the third Wednesday of the month except September.

GALION — The Galion City School District Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting followed by its regular monthly meeting Jan. 10 when it recognized four students who have consistently demonstrated the Profile of a Tiger trait — Empathetic.

The Empathetic trait calls for students to display empathy by listening to others' perspectives and understanding that we all think and live differently. The students recognized are: Avery Daniels, second grade; Rylee Danison, fourth grade; Gavin Goldsmith, sixth grade; and Sommar Sheriff, senior.

Also during the meeting, the board adopted the Galion School District’s proposed 2023-2024 high school course guide along with the school year calendar. The first day of school will be Aug. 17.

The next regular meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21 in the Galion Middle School computer lab.

Pioneer to host sophomore visits and open houses

SHELBY — Sophomores from Pioneer Career and Technology Center’s 14 partner schools are scheduled to visit Pioneer Wednesday and Thursday. And open house is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Thursday and from 6-7:30 .m. on Feb. 23.

During sophomore visits, students choose three labs from over 35 career-tech programs to observe options that are available for the students’ junior and senior years of high school.
