North Central State College joins Community Vibrancy effort

North Central State College has been named one of 16 colleges in the national inaugural Achieving the Dream (ATD) Community Vibrancy cohort — an initiative working to assess and address systemic challenging opportunities on campus and in the community.

The Achieving the Dream effort has been ongoing at NCSC since 2005 and has been a key component of strategic planning for the college.

North Central State College is continuing to build on its steady progress with a focus on increasing student retention and completion. The college also is focused on increasing the diversity of students on campus and on closing equity gaps for first generation and minority students. That work will include expanded outreach and work with local high schools and technical centers with a high percentage of first generation and minority students, peer mentoring for those students and professional development for faculty focused on inclusive teaching practices.

Conservancy District holding Earth Day Cleanup Challenge.

NEW PHILADELPHIA — Earth Day is April 22, and the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) is celebrating with an Earth Day Cleanup Challenge.

The MWCD is inviting the public to get involved by attending an organized clean-up to earn a free night of camping, or clean-up on their own and enter to win a cooler full of goodies.

Organized cleanups will be Saturday at Charles Mill, Clendening, Piedmont and Pleasant Hill lakes. Additional clean-ups will be on April 22 at Atwood, Tappan and Seneca lakes. Free camping coupons will be issued one per household. For groups wishing to participate, please contact Ethan Zucal at 330-556-4814 or ezucal@mwcd.org. Cleanup details for each lake are available at MWCD.org.

People who are unable to attend an organized clean-up, walkers, hikers and boaters are encouraged to pick up litter April 15 to April 23. Post photos of your cleanup to an MWCD Facebook or Instagram page using #MWCDEarthDay2023 and be entered into a drawing for a cooler filled with prizes and a gift certificate.
