Brown is keynote speaker for North Central State College graduation ceremony

MANSFIELD — North Central State College will hold its graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, May 12, at the Campus Recreation Center, 2441 Kenwood Circle. The keynote speaker will be U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, who is a native of Mansfield.

This year, 357 North Central State College students have been invited to participate in the ceremony. Immediately before the graduation, the processional will leave Ovalwood Hall and walk to the Campus Recreation Center. Tickets will not be available at the door. Each graduate will be given a designated number of tickets.

The ceremony will be livestreamed on ncstatecollege.edu, Facebook and YouTube @ncstatecollege.

ASHLAND — Ashland University has been recognized as a 2023-24 Best Graduate School for education by U.S. News & World Report.

Designed for prospective students who are seeking a doctorate in education, U.S. News used a distinct and data-driven methodology in building its Best Graduate Schools rankings. Categories that were assessed included research activity, academic excellence of entering students, faculty resources and opinions on program quality from education school deans and school hiring professionals.

Ashland ranked 226th among the 459 schools granting doctoral education degrees that were surveyed. Within the state of Ohio, Ashland was No. 10.

33 Forever to host Mental Health Awareness Walk

Mansfield mental health nonprofit 33 Forever will host the third annual 33 Forever Mental Health Birthday Walk in downtown Mansfield on May 20. The family-friendly walk and fundraiser will begin and end at Carrousel Park with a route around the downtown area for about 2 miles. The walk will begin at 11:33 a.m. with check-in starting at 10:33 a.m.

Entertainment at the end of the walk will include free carrousel rides for walkers and their families, a magician, a balloon artist, a reptile adventure experience, music and food and drink options as well as information booths from regional mental health organizations.

Walkers should register in advance at 33forever.life to ensure getting event T-shirts, but registration also will be available the day of the event. Individual walkers are $33 and family units are $66.

Portion of Mansfield street closed

Arthur Avenue from West First Street to Spruce Street has been closed for water service repairs. It's expected to reopen Wednesday. Traffic is advised to plan an alternate route to avoid possible delays.
