Board of elections announces some polling changes

The Richland County Board of Election has announced the following changes in three voting locations for the Nov. 7 general election and all future elections:

  • Jackson A & B precincts: Moving from the Jackson Township Hall, 3761 Plymouth Springmill Road, to Awake Church, 3616 Ohio 39, Shelby.

  • Ontario 3A precinct: Moving from Ontario City Hall, 555 Stumbo Road, to Ontario Crossroads Church, 636 Lexington Springmill Road S., Mansfield.

  • Mansfield 1D precinct: Moving from Resurrection Parish, 2600 Lexington Ave., to Mansfield Alliance Church, 291 W. Cook Road, Mansfield

  • Mansfield 1A & Washington C precincts: Moving from Resurrection Parish, 2600 Lexington Ave., to Berean Baptist Church, 2145 Middle Bellville Road, Mansfield

Voters in these precincts will be notified by mail of their new polling location name and address. The board does not expect to make any other revisions unless an emergency situation would arise.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail for the Nov. 7 election is 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 31. Absentee ballots must be postmarked by the day before the election to be counted, or they can be dropped off at the Richland County Board of Elections at 1495 W. Longview Ave. Suite 101 in Mansfield, or placed it in the locked and secure dropbox in the rear, lower-level parking area of the Longview Center.

Early in-person voting starts on Oct. 11 at 1495 W. Longview Ave., lower-level, and on Nov. 5.

Patrol announces OVI checkpoint results

The Ohio Highway Patrol has completed an OVI checkpoint that occurred Sept. 9 on U.S. Route 42, near milepost 15, in Mifflin Township. The checkpoint was held from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

During the operational hours, 421 vehicles drove through the checkpoint. One vehicle was diverted and no OVI arrests were made. After the checkpoint, saturation patrols continued in the area. Twenty-seven traffic stops were initiated with four OVI arrests made. The Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control during the checkpoint.

NECIC reaffirms commitment to Mansfield's My Brother's Keeper chapter

The North End Community Improvement Collaborative (NECIC) has reaffirmed its commitment to the My Brother's Keeper (MBK) initiative. MBK, initiated by former President Barack Obama, aims to address the unique challenges facing young men and boys of color across the United States. NECIC, in partnership with other community stakeholders, has been at the forefront of this mission to empower and uplift the African-American male population in Mansfield.

On Oct. 2, NECIC will be launching its collaborative youth violence prevention program funded by Ohio Commission on Minority Health.
