Briefs: Prescription Drug Take Back event, FCTP forum, home warranty scams

MANSFIELD − On April 22, the METRICH Enforcement Unit will partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and local law enforcement to present a Prescription Take Back event.

Pills will be the only form accepted (no sharps, plastics or liquids.) It will be helpful to put the pills that will be disposed into a plastic bag or Ziplock bag before going to the collection site. This is only for household unused or expired medications. No pills from pharmacies, businesses or pharmaceutical sales representatives will be accepted.

Crawford County will have four locations for prescription drug drop-off: Bucyrus Police Department, 500 S. Sandusky Ave.; Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, 3613 Stetzer Road, Bucyrus; Crestline Police Department, 100 N. Seltzer St.; and the Galion Police Department, 301 Harding Way East.

Each drop-off location will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22.

Warranty scams hit home in Ohio

COLUMBUS − Homeowners should do a double take if they receive a letter in the mail from Home Warranty Renewal urging them to purchase a home warranty.

Several central Ohioans recently received the solicitation from F-rated Home Warranty Direct claiming homeowners’ home warranties “may be expiring or may have already expired.” Each letter contains the same claim, even if the homeowner never purchased a home warranty.

The letter implies an affiliation with the homeowner’s mortgage company and it is a "final attempt to notify" the recipient that "without a home warranty they are at risk of being financially liable for any and all repairs" but "there is still time left to activate a warranty."

The Better Business Bureau says the letter creates a false sense of urgency, demanding a response within 5 days after which Home Warranty Direct has "the right to revoke your eligibility."

Consumers considering purchasing a home warranty can discover trusted, vetted BBB Accredited Businesses by searching by topic, Home Warranty, at bbb.org.
