Richardson introduces Military Enlistment Seal legislation

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) introduced legislation to recognize high school students entering a university ROTC program or a military service academy upon graduation with a Military Enlistment Seal on their diploma.

The legislation only recognizes students who have enlisted into the Armed Forced or have been in JROTC as eligible to receive the seal. Richardson’s legislation will provide more parity in recognizing students who have demonstrated a willingness to serve the nation.

Richardson is joined by Rep. Jessica Miranda (D-Forest Park) as a primary sponsor of the legislation.

Rep. Tracy Richardson, R-Marysville, represents the 86th District in the Ohio House of Representatives.

10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls Walk set for Sept. 20

ONTARIO — The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging Inc. invites the public to participate in a prevention walk on Wednesday to help bring awareness to the prevention of falls.

Walks are planned at two locations: 10 a.m. to noon at Marion Technical College, 1467 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion, and 9-11 a.m. at the YMCA of North Central Ohio-Mansfield, 750 Scholl Road, Mansfield. The walk is a collaboration between the Area Agency on Aging, the YMCA of North Central Ohio-Mansfield and Marion Technical College.

The walk is to celebrate National Falls Prevention Awareness Day and to raise awareness of the many ways older Ohioans can minimize their risks. The Area Agency on Aging and the Ohio Department of Aging initiative asks all Ohioans to help take “10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls” throughout the month of September.

One in three Ohioans over age 60 will fall this year, and for many of them, that fall could lead to a life-changing injury or even death. However, falls are not a normal part of aging, and most falls can be prevented. Regular physical activity is one of the most basic things older adults can do to prevent falls, which is why walking is the focus of this annual event.
