The Marion Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed Carr's Motown Coney Island to the downtown business community during a ribbon cutting and open house on Thursday.

Located at 142 N. Main St., Marcus and Simona Carr are the owners of Carr's Motown Coney Island. Marcus is from Detroit. Simona was born and raised in Marion. The restaurant provides a warm hometown atmosphere and a mixture of great Detroit food.

Marion officers among 38 to graduate from Basic Peace Officer Class

COLUMBUS — Members of the 145th Basic Peace Officer Class received training certificates during a virtual graduation ceremony held Friday at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Training Academy. The 38 graduates will assume duties as peace officers for 17 Ohio agencies.

Among the graduates are two Marion Police Department officers — Matthew W. Mauldin and Michael G. Starrs.

The 21-week basic course began in August. The course was developed by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission and offers comprehensive instruction in more than 150 topics, including criminal law, traffic law, community relations, physical training, self-defense, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, standardized field sobriety testing and electronic speed measuring devices.

Palace Theatre announces January movies, sound system upgraded

The Palace Cultural Arts Association (PCAA) is pleased to announce movie weekends at the Marion Palace Theatre will resume this weekend. Movie-goers will be among the first to enjoy an elevated listening experience with the newly installed state-of-the-art sound system designed by Eighth Day Sound, a subsidiary of Clair Integration. The $200,000 installation project was subsidized by The Marion Palace Theatre Perpetual Care Fund and The Robert and Dorothy Wopat Community Fund at the Marion Community Foundation.

On Friday and Sunday, the Palace will feature the animated comedy-adventure film “Sing 2.” The featured title on the weekend of Jan. 28, 29 and 30 will be the 2022 Golden Globe winning film “West Side Story.”

Admission prices for movies are $4 for all ages and $2 for current 2021-2022 PCAA members presenting a valid membership card.

The Palace will continue to observe current COVID safety guidelines. While masks are not required, the CDC recommends them for all guests regardless of vaccination status. When masks are worn, they may be removed for eating and drinking.
