Richland County Foundation granted over $8.8 M in 2022
The Richland County Foundation granted $8,805,272 in 2022. President Brady Groves also reported during the foundation's annual meeting that gifts for the year totaled $3,544,561.
Foundation donors were most passionate about supporting education with grants totaling 2,995,520. Other sectors receiving grants were children/families/youth $1,646,478; community development $1,185,896; health services $841,996; arts & culture $762,800; environment $664,344; human services $363,967; economic development $216,296, and churches $128,975. Also during the meeting, Richland Public Health Commissioner Dr. Julie Chaya spoke about a new AED program. The Health Department received a grant to provide pediatric AED equipment and education. Automated external defibrillators (AED machines) are being placed at Richland County schools and nonprofit organizations. Health Department staff are providing CPR training.
During the business portion of the meeting, Rand Smith and Jason Guilliams were approved as incoming Board of Trustee members. Carl Fernyak, Dr. Norman Jones, Julie McCready and Gog Meisse completed their terms and were recognized for their dedication and service to the community.
First English Lutheran to distribute food boxes to low-income seniors
First English Lutheran Church, 53 Park Avenue West, along with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, offer Senior Boxes on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
Anyone 60 and over who falls into the “low income” guidelines can register and pick up a 30-pound box of nonperishable food including two pounds of cheese and a 15-pound box of prepackaged produce. This is a year-round distribution. Age is a qualification, so a current identification card complete with date of birth and proof of income must be provided.
Participants should come to the east side of the church between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to get registered and pick up a Senior Box. There is no cost for the food.
Richland Academy plans Dance Floor Send Off Party
Richland Academy of the Arts is announcing its Dance Another Day, Dance Floor Replacement Project with a Dance Floor Send Off Party from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday, featuring raffle baskets and refreshments. Those attending are invited to wear their favorite past dance costumes.
The Robert and Esther Black Family Fund of the Richland County Foundation and the PNC Asset Management Fund have provided money to help support phase one of the project to replace the 20-year-old dance floor.
