130th annual Sacred Heart Festival to be held Sunday

SHELBY — Sacred Heart School’s 130th annual festival will be held from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday on the parish grounds, 5742 Ohio 61 S., Shelby.

The highlight of the festival is the half chicken or ham dinners for $12. The meal includes mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, roll and butter, pickled eggs and beets, applesauce or coleslaw and a choice of coffee, iced tea or lemonade. A small meal of quarter chicken with all the trimmings is $10.

The festival will feature a kids tent with assorted games until 6 p.m., putt-putt golf, horse-drawn wagon rides, live animal attractions, a farmers market booth, a farm machinery display and bingo. There's also a 50/50 drawing, a reverse raffle with a $1,500 top winner, and a raffle with prizes that include a hot air balloon ride, a gas grill, Apple AirPods and much more. The Bavarian Village with live musical entertainment will be open from 1-10 p.m.

Organizers say there will be plenty of shaded seating available throughout the parish grounds and parking is free.

The festival is the primary fundraiser supporting Sacred Heart School, a preschool-eighth grade facility. For more information, visit the festival's Facebook page.

Special dedication at the NCO Industrial Museum

The North Central Ohio Industrial Museum will dedicate its new Tappan's Donor Wall honoring major financial and artifact donors during an unveiling at 10 a.m. Friday in the lower east diagonal at the Ohio State Reformatory.

The plaque was designed by Kevin Haring and built by Miller Fabricating & Welding of Lexington and the Manufacturing Institute 2023 summer camp attendees.

Officials also announced all individuals over age 65 who worked in local manufacturing industries are invited to a free lunch at the museum on Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. with tours of the industrial museum at noon. For more information, call 419- 564-5585.

6-State Trooper Project focuses on 'Move Over' violations

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Highway Patrol joins forces with other members of the 6-State Trooper Project to focus on "Move Over" violations. The initiative began on Sunday at 12:01 a.m. and will continue through 11:59 p.m. Saturday.

The high-visibility enforcement initiative includes the Indiana State Police, Kentucky State Police, Michigan State Police, Pennsylvania State Police and the West Virginia State Police, as well as OSHP.

Since 2018, Ohio Highway Patrol cruisers were struck in 61 crashes that were “Move Over” related. During that same time period, the patrol issued 26,739 "Move Over" violation citations. These crashes resulted in the deaths of two civilians and 56 injuries to officers and civilians. In 2022, there were only 11 such crashes, 38% fewer than in 2021.

Ohio law requires all drivers to move over to an adjacent lane when approaching any vehicle with flashing or rotating lights parked on the roadside.
