Briefs: Shelby Democrats to hold anniversary celebration

News in brief

Shelby Area Democratic Club to mark 54 years

SHELBY — On a summer day in 1968, 30 people gathered in Shelby’s Seltzer Park. After a covered dish dinner, they enjoyed a discussion on the possibility of forming a Democratic club in the Shelby area. Now in 2022, the Shelby Area Democratic Club is celebrating the 54th anniversary of its founding.

Club officers, members and guests will gather on Thursday for a gala potluck-dinner celebration. The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Seltzer Park South Pavilion on Glenwood Drive. During the program, someone will be inducted into the “Most Faithful Order of the Brass Donkey.” The event will conclude with a silent auction of political memorabilia and other items.

The celebration is open to all area Democrats and persons of good will. Especially invited are those who feel challenged by the current political climate throughout the nation. Please bring your favorite potluck dishes. The club will provide plates, cutlery and beverages. Silent auction items are welcome, too.
