Romanchuk praises infrastructure and affordable housing investments

COLUMBUS — State Sen. Mark Romanchuk (R-Ontario) is applauding the announcement by the Ohio Department of Development of significant investments in housing and infrastructure across the state, including $700,000 for the city of Shelby to rehabilitate six owner-occupied homes, repair 10 owner-occupied homes, and include a fair housing component.

"When housing and infrastructure needs are met, communities can flourish and grow," Romanchuk said. "With our state economy set to boom, we must make sure our communities are in a stable and reliable position for expansion."

Through the Community Housing Impact and Preservation (CHIP) program, 28 communities across Ohio will receive a total of $20 million in funding to improve affordable housing and provide home ownership and rental assistance for low- and moderate-income families. Additionally, $10.6 million will be awarded for Neighborhood Revitalization and Critical Infrastructure grants to 20 Ohio communities.

Closings to impact traffic

Mt. Zion Road between Kling Road and Ohio 39 in Monroe Township closed Monday will remain closed for five days, weather permitting. The closure will allow for a culvert replacement.

East Fifth Street from North Main Street to North Diamond Street in Mansfield will close at 9 a.m. Tuesday for water main repairs. It's expected to reopen Friday.

Coats for Kids drive this Wednesday

The Mansfield Noon Optimists, Ashley Home Store and Mansfield Altrusa International are combining forces to collect new and/or gently used clean winter gear for the annual “Coats for Kids” drive.

The Mansfield Noon Optimists will hold a collection site at the former Holiday Inn on Park Avenue West from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Coats, jackets, hoodies, scarves, blankets, warm socks, hats, gloves, mittens are all acceptable items to donate.

The donated items are taken to the Grace Episcopal Church in Mansfield where they will be distributed to needy families.

Novelist Mindy McGinnis to speak in Galion

GALION — Edgar Award-winning novelist Mindy McGinnis will be speaking and signing books at the Galion Public Library Community Room at 6 p.m. on Nov. 7. The free event is sponsored by the Galion Public Library in collaboration with the Friends of the Library.

McGinnis, an Ohio area author, recently collaborated on a book with author James Patterson. She focuses on young adult readers and writes across multiple genres, including post-apocalyptic, historical, thriller, contemporary, mystery, and fantasy.

Past star-rated books by the American Library Association, Booklist, Voice of Youth and others include “Heroine,” “The Female of the Species,” “A Madness So Discreet,’” and “The Last Laugh.”
