Stemtown Historical Society to hold meeting in new location

GREEN SPRINGS - The Stemtown Historical Society will meet at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 111 S. Kansas St., at 7 p.m. Aug. 1. The historical society has been able to purchase the Calvary UMC location due to a donation from Bud and Maxine Rutherford.

The historical society will be moving its historical items from its previous location at a future date and is seeking additional volunteers to help with the move from the previous museum location on Morgan Street to Kansas Street. The Morgan Street property is currently listed for sale through Wendt Key Realty, Fremont.

Zody to attend Fremont Lions meeting on Aug. 1

FREMONT - The Aug. 1 meeting of the Fremont Lions Club will be with Ohio Lions 13 Governor Julianne Zody as the speaker.  The meeting will be noon to 1 p.m. at the Fremont Eagles Hall.

Zody was recently installed at the International Convention in Boston and has been an active member in the Perrysville Lions Club for many years. Her theme for the year is G.I.F.T.S. which stands for Going In First To Serve.

Dr. Paul Silcox will be the speaker on Aug. 15 and a business meeting will take place on Aug. 29 also at the Fremont Eagles Hall from noon to 1 p.m.  Members and guests are welcome to attend all meetings. In August, members will also be on hand at the Sandusky County Fair to assist with parking. Call Donna Thatcher, secretary at 419-332-3095 with any questions.

At the July 18 club meeting, Steve Anway, the new president of Fremont Lions Club, welcomed members and guest speaker Julie Chudzinski. Chudzinski, a licensed funeral director at Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home, is a graduate of St. Joe High School, Bowling Green State University and received her Master of Business Administration from the University of Toledo.  Her program included explaining various options and services provided and the importance of making your wishes known with family or a best friend.

Culvert to be replaced on Fulton Street

PORT CLINTON - The Ottawa County engineer reported D2 Excavating will replace a culvert under Fulton Street, which will restrict travel to one lane now through Aug. 11 between Lockwood and Wilcox roads. D2 Excavating is expected to work through the night during the first week. For more information contact the engineer's office at 419-734-6777.

Port Clinton Day at Mud Hens game is Aug. 20

TOLEDO - The 3rd Annual Port Clinton Day at 5/3 Field will be Aug. 20. At 4:05 p.m. the Toledo Mud Hens will host the Omaha Storm Chasers and the entire Port Clinton community is invited to attend. The Port Clinton High School Orchestra will perform the National Anthem; children from Rainbow Acres will sing Take Me Out To The Ball Game.  In addition, the first pitch and hometown hero recognition will be Port Clinton affiliated.
