Richland County Foundation announces grants to support summer fun for children

The Richland County Foundation is supporting summertime programs focused on children. The Summertime Kids Committee, chaired by Foundation Board of Trustee member Karen Bierly along with members from the community, approved $65,501 in Summertime Kid grants. The grants of up to $2,500 support creative, educational, and fun-filled activities for hundreds of Richland County children.

Grants were awarded to the following: Buckeye Imagination Museum; Camp Nuhop; Crossroads Church Kids’ Ministry; Girl Scouts of Ohio Heartland Council; First English Lutheran Early Learning Center; Friendly House; Friends of Richland County Park District; Heart City Church; Hospice of North Central Ohio; K-City Childcare & Preschool; Kingwood Center Gardens; LifeCare Alliance CODA; Love On A Mission; Mansfield Art Center; Mansfield Playhouse; Mt. Vernon Nazarene University; NECIC; Ohio Bird Sanctuary; Renaissance Performing Arts; Richland Astronomical Society; Salvation Army Dewald Center; Shelby City Schools; Village of Shiloh, and YWCA of North Central Ohio.

Additional grants were awarded to: Independent Living Center of NCO; Princess Endowment; Richland Newhope; Zoe’ Learning Center; and Unstoppables.

Madison Township Fire Department awarded grant

The Madison Township Fire Department has received a $2,453 fire prevention grant from FM Global, one of the world's largest commercial property insurers. The grant will be used to assist with fire prevention activities to help educate the community and reduce the number of fires.

Through its Fire Prevention Grant Program, FM Global awards grants to fire departments and other organizations worldwide that best demonstrate a need for funding, where dollars can have the most demonstrable impact on preventing fire or mitigating the damage.

Motorists alerted to two road closings

Richland County Engineer Adam Gove says Tucker Road, between Hastings-Newville Road and Pleasant Valley Road in Monroe Township, is closed and will remain closed until further notice due to the condition of a bridge.

ODOT says Ohio 13, just north of Free Road, will close Monday for a culvert replacement project. The detour route for northbound motorists will be Ohio 13 to Ohio 603, north on Ohio 603 to Ohio 61, north on Ohio 61 to U.S. 224, east on U.S. 224 to Ohio 13, and reverse for southbound motorists. The project is expected to be completed by next Friday.
