42 officers graduate from Patrol’s Basic Peace Officer Class

COLUMBUS — Members of the 147th Basic Peace Officer Class received training certificates during a graduation ceremony held Jan. 20 at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Training Academy. The 42 graduates will assume duties as peace officers for 20 Ohio agencies.

Among the officers completing the training are Aaron J. Adair and Walter J. Childers of the Marion Police Department.

The 21-week basic course began in August. The course was developed by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission and offers comprehensive instruction in more than 150 topics, including criminal law, traffic law, community relations, physical training, self-defense, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, standardized field sobriety testing and electronic speed measuring devices.

Richardson named chair of Finance Subcommittee on Primary, Secondary Education Committee

COLUMBUS — Ohio House Speaker Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill) appointed State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) Tuesday to chair the Finance Subcommittee on Primary and Secondary Education Committee.

Richardson is returning to her role as she chaired the Finance Subcommittee on Primary and Secondary Education Committee of the 134th General Assembly. She also served on the Primary and Secondary Education and Finance committees.

Concert and movie featured this weekend at the Palace Theatre

Phil Dirt & The Dozers will perform at 7 p.m. Friday at the Marion Palace Theatre with proceeds benefiting the Marion City Schools Music Departments. Doors will open at 6. Presented by Ratliff Law Offices, reserved prime seating at $35 per person is available through the Marion Palace Theatre or Ratliff Law Offices until 5 p.m. Friday. After 5 p.m., tickets will be $30 general admission and only available at the Palace Box Office before the performance.

The Palace Theatre will also present the feature film "Puss In Boots: The Last Wish" at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets will be available at the doors — $5 general admission and $3 for Palace members with card.

Also continuing at the Palace on Monday evenings through Feb. 13 is Line Dancing with Kirk plus Yoga with Helene takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays through February. For more information or to register for classes, go to marionpalace.org.
