Local artist wins inaugural Marion Women's Club Impact Award

Lannette K. Davis, Marion artist and former treasurer of the Marion Women’s Club, was the recipient of the inaugural “Lannette K. Davis Women’s Impact Award” presented during the Club’s recent “Celebrate the Arts: Brunch, Tea & Tours” event.

Bearing her name, Davis received the award which will be given to an individual whose contributions to the Marion Women’s Club have represented “exemplary initiative, passion and foresight.”

Davis is credited with stimulating the resurgence of the Women’s Club, which has grown from a handful of members just a few years ago to 108. A dogwood tree will be planted in her honor on the grounds of the historic Women’s Club Home at 1126 E. Center St.

Columbia Gas issues reminder to call 811 before digging

Columbia Gas hopes that Aug. 11 on the calendar will be a natural reminder for residents to contact 811 before any digging project to have underground utility lines marked. An underground utility line is damaged every few minutes because someone decided to dig without first contacting 811.

Whether installing a mailbox, building a deck, planting a tree or laying a patio, Columbia Gas reminds Ohioans to contact 811 at least two business days before breaking ground. When you contact 811 your local utility companies mark the approximate location of any buried lines in your yard, so you don’t risk injuring yourself or disrupting utility service to the neighborhood.

Call 811 or go online to OUPS.org to make your request.
