Bright Spot: Judge's parents looked at all the options

We love options. Whenever my doctor or dentist has some recommended treatment, they both lay all the options on the table. I always tell them I hope none of the options have me ON the table. (It’s always a great line, in my opinion.)

They use words like “minor surgery.” But if it’s being done on me, it’s MAJOR. Minor surgery is what they do on YOU. I know I’m going to hear other euphemisms like, “Now you’ll feel a little pressure.” That’s my cue to brace for white-knuckle pain.

On April 26, 1992, a baby was born to parents that did not want him. Fortunately for that child, their doctor also gave these folks the adoption option, the one they chose instead of abortion.

Patty and Wayne Judge started loving and raising that little baby boy. Today, he’s a 30-year-old, 6-foot-7, 282-pound giant. He could very well have just been a sad statistic, but because his birth parents chose life for their son, a Christian and a man of strong character has become the perfect role model for a generation that is in sorely need of one. Recently he broke the American League record for the most home runs in a regular season at 62, a record that had stood for more than 60 years.

His story makes us all wish more would choose “the adoption option,” regardless of which side of that major league moral issue you’re on.

Some singers and rappers rant about killing cops and raping women, Hollywood spews hate for America, sports stars who make multi-millions degrade their craft with destructive “lifestyles.” But Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge stands tall in a field of character pygmies. He’s someone we can all look up to in every way.
