Brighten A Christmas: Dad has to stay home with Mom, who has congestive heart failure

Health issues are affecting the family in Brighten A Christmas case No. 3.

The mother of the family of three is unable to work because of congestive heart failure, which is progressive. She is in a wheelchair, forcing her husband to stay home and provide her care, tending to her everyday needs.

Dad does the best he can for his wife and their teenage son, but because money is so tight, there is nothing left for Christmas.

Donors who want to help this family may contribute cash, checks or gift cards at any of the nine Richland County locations of Mechanics Bank. People who want to donate to case No. 3 should note that on the envelope.

The News Journal launched Brighten A Christmas on Dec. 7, 1947, as a series of appeals encouraging groups, families and others to adopt those in need or contribute to purchase food baskets, Christmas trees, clothing and other items.

Brighten A Christmas is in its 76th campaign.
