Brightline construction causes more road closures and reopenings this week in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE— More road closures and reopening's are happening this week as Brightline continues construction on its 168-mile railroad extension from West Palm Beach to Orlando International Airport.

The crossing at Milton Road reopened 6 p.m. Tuesday. Orange Avenue is expected to reopen 6 p.m. Sunday.

Beginning Friday, the railroad crossing at Torpey Road will be closed 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Jan. 30.

Drivers will be detoured onto Mariner Oaks Way.

On Tuesday, Brightline made its unofficial Treasure Coast debut with its first test trainstraveling, without passengers, through downtown Stuart, Fort Pierce and Vero Beach.

Weekday test runs will continue through the year, and beginning Thursday the train's speed will increase to a maximum 60 mph.
