Brightline from Miami to Orlando: Everything to know about tickets, stops, pets, discounts

Brightline's high-speed rail service is opening its newest train station this month.

On Friday, September 22, Brightline's newest and northernmost train station will welcome its first trains, connecting Orlando with existing Brightline train stations in Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach.

Where does the Brightline train go in Florida?

There are six Brightline train stations in Florida. Brightline has stations in Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach, with its Orlando station opening for business on September 22. The new station was originally set to open on Labor Day weekend, but was delayed in the construction and certification processes.

How much will a Brightline ticket cost from Miami to Orlando?

Brightline tickets from Miami to Orlando range from $79 to almost $300 for a one-way ticket. Prices start at $79 for Smart tickets and rise to $270 for some Premium tickets. Tickets can be bought at a Brightline station or at gobrightline.com.

Are there any promotions or deals for Brightline tickets?

Brightline is offering discounts for kids ages two through 12, groups traveling together and students. To receive the discount for a group, that group should be no smaller than four people and no larger than sixteen.

How often will Brightline run trains to Orlando?

Brightline will run 16 daily roundtrips to its new station, with hourly departures between Miami and Orlando.

Can I bring my dog or cat on a Brightline train?

Dogs and cats are allowed on Brightline trains. The train service's pet policy says that pets have to be on a leash or crated while in Brightline stations and on trains. The West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale stations both have designated pet relief areas.

Does Brightline have a station in Brevard County?

Brevard County does not have a Brightline station, but according to an April report from Florida Today, officials from Brevard County hope they'll also get a station in the next few years.

"A 2015-16 study by the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization and Canaveral Port Authority recommended Cocoa as a preferred Brightline station site, citing access to Port Canaveral, Cocoa Village and the company's planned future expansion to Jacksonville," Florida Today reported this spring.

Brightline doesn't currently have any known plans for a Brevard County station, but the company did acquire land in both Cocoa and Titusville this year, which raises questions about the company's hopes for Brevard.

How fast do Brightline trains go?

Brightline trains can travel at up to 125 mph, slowing down to 79 mph between West Palm Beach and Miami.

How long does it take for a high-speed Brightline train to stop?

"It takes a mile for a Brightline train to stop. So by the time you see a train, it's too late," Brightline spokesperson Katie Mitzner told Florida Today in July. "So you need to pay attention to all of the signals, the crossing arms coming down at the crossings. Take out those AirPods."

Is there a safety concern with Brightline's high-speed trains?

"About 10 minutes into my conversation with Eric Flowers, Indian River County’s sheriff offered one of the most morbid predictions I’ve heard since the COVID-19 pandemic," Laurence Reisman wrote for Treasure Coast Newspapers in an August column.

According to Reisman, it depends on who you ask. While local sheriffs on the Treasure Coast are concerned that the increase in trains moving through the area could mean an increase in deaths on the tracks, Brightline's CEO Michael Reininger says that "significant safety upgrades at every grade crossing," will be "consistent with the highest applicable standards in the country."
