Fence-in Brightline

Re the Post's Sept. 29 "Brightline trains have been involved in 100 railroad fatalities in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties since 2017": This year 13 deaths occurred through June 5. Brightline trains travel — “fly” — at 80 miles per hour on tracks that divide neighborhoods. To prevent trespassing or neighbors simply taking a short cut, a six foot high fence must be installed along the tracks sooner than later.

Duty to fix immigration is shared

Our government has three branches: legislative, executive and judicial. Immigration laws are made by Congress, which is the legislative branch. Either the House of Representatives or the Senate can formulate a bill on immigration. The president does not make immigration laws. Therefore, it is foolish to blame any president for the disastrous immigration situation. Republicans are now in control of the House of Representatives and have the right to formulate laws on immigration. Instead they blame President Biden for the immigration mess. It is important for voters to understand this process about immigration. For reasons completely obscured to the general public, the House of Representatives and the Senate will not focus on making laws on immigration.

Democrats were shutdown villains, too

Before y'all and The Palm Beach Post go and blame the Republicans for a potential government shutdown, please note that on Friday night 211 Democrats voted against the proposed budget bill in the House of Representatives.

Column misses point of GOP

In his Sunday op-ed, entitled "Today's Republicans and 1960s radicals," Jonah Goldberg compares the fringe groups on both sides of the political spectrum and their "countercultural impulses." These impulses are so radical that they manifest themselves as "an almost Freudian compulsion to lose." Goldberg goes on to prove his point but in the end he bemoans the fact that these MAGA extremists, although safe in their own districts, will harm the chances of 18 Republicans elected in districts where Biden won. Who cares?

Mr. Goldberg..., if Republicans lose seats, it's because they allowed extremists to control their party, have no ideas, don't do the peoples' business and are putrid at governing. Instead of sour grapes, write the truth about your party and call for change that will return the Republican Party to be an honest broker in the area of political discord. Rail against the truth that Republicans have used our democracy to dupe an ignorant base to vote against its self interest, to maintain political power.
