Manchester City are reigning champions after beating Liverpool to the finish line in a neck-and-neck 2021/22 title race where a comeback win on the final day of the season against Aston Villa secured a fourth title in five years for Pep Guardiola's side.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds were on course for a quadruple last season but were forced to settle for just an FA Cup and Carabao Cup win and will return trying to win the title again just as they did in 2020.

It was a dramatic season for Chelsea a year ago with Roman Abramovich now replaced by Todd Boehly as owner in west London. He will want an instant return on his hefty investment at Stamford Bridge while Tottenham, back in the Champions League, will want to kick on once more too.

It's not all about the action at the top though with Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest promoted to the top tier for 2021/22 and hoping to hold their own against the best English football has to offer and avoid the drop.

We will bring you all the action and updates from today's game in the live blog below:

City were crowned as champions of the Premier League for the fifth time in six seasons after Nottingham Forest beat second-placed Arsenal. Facing Chelsea later that weekend, Pep Guardiola made nine changes to his side, but it did not affect the outcome. Julian Alvarez’s 12-minute strike was enough to seal City’s 12 successive win in the competition and extended their unbeaten run to 15 games (drawing one). City have triumphed in their last seven fixtures on the road, with their previous defeat coming against Tottenham at the start of February.

Brighton beat already relegated Southampton in their previous match to secure European football for the first time in their history. Since losing to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, the Seagulls have won four of their last six games, pushing them from eighth to sixth in the table. Roberto De Zerbi’s men need just one point to confirm their place in next season's Europa League but have a difficult task ahead of them. Brighton have lost 10 of their 11 Premier League games against Manchester City, with the exception being a 3-2 home win in May 2021.
