BRIGHTON TWP. − Township officials will begin construction on a planned social hall next year.

Brighton Township Manager Bryan Dehart said renovation work for the Firemen's Social Hall, located at 5400 Dutch Road, will be ready to go out for bid in early 2023.

He said architectural work was approved earlier in the year, and engineering work will be finished by the end of this year.

Supervisors last year adopted an Indoor Recreation Center Feasibility Study, which stated, through a study committee and planning team, that residents have a demand for indoor rental space, with the township lacking an indoor recreation facility that can be used by the parks and recreation board for events and programming.

Therefore, a project was started called the Brighton Grange Renovation, to renovate the building to make it an ideal indoor recreation facility.

These include stormwater controls, including retention and parking lot reconstruction for improved access and traffic flow and increased green space.

Dehart said the project is expected to cost over $1 million.

In September, the township received a $250,000 grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).

The township has also applied for more funding through a DCED Local Share Account grant and a Community Parks and Recreation Grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Dehart said the township will move forward with the project even if it doesn't receive the other two grants.
