'Bring back community spirit': Gallitzin celebrates A Small Town Christmas

Dec. 4—GALLITZIN, Pa. — A Small Town Christmas in Gallitzin brought families out Saturday for a daylong event to celebrate the holiday season.

The event was started by Frontier Girls Troop 213 when the troop purchased a tree and caroled six years ago, and it has continued to grow since.

As a part of the event, vendors and activities were featured throughout Gallitzin during the day and concluding in the evening with a parade and tree lighting.

Amber Gebhardt attended the event with her daughters Lyla, 7, and Aleah, 10.

Amber Gebhardt said that the day care that her daughters attend is one of the organizations that hosts Santa. They attended to support Santa and the community.

"My favorite part is seeing Santa and my friends. My second favorite part is probably all the activities," Aleah Gebhardt said.

Luca Cicero, 3, was inside the Gallitzin Sportsmans' Club with his father, Josh, and his aunt, Michelle Smith, anxiously waiting in line for a balloon animal by Mary Ann Ross, of Simplicity's Balloon Creations.

Josh Cicero said that they were attending with family to support the community and have a good time with Luca.

"It's nice to see that they're doing something to bring back community spirit," Smith said.

"We're just trying to support the community and all the local businesses."

"This is the first Christmas where he's really excited," Josh Cicero added as another reason for attending.

Christmas activities will continue in Gallitzin throughout the remainder of December.
