Amarillo College began the new year with gold.

The school announced Friday that its Communications and Marketing Department received five national collegiate marketing accolades from the 9th Annual Education Digital Marketing Awards.

“This symbolizes to the college and the community that our voice and everything that we are doing here at Amarillo College is on track to keeping up with what our plans are on so many different levels... I think to get the national recognition just quantifies in our minds that we're on the right track, we have a really talented bunch of people here at AC,” said Kevin Ball, AC’s vice president of Communications and Marketing.

The college won two of the topmost awards with its Total Digital Marketing Program, and Social Media Content Campaign both receiving Gold awards. The department also received three Silver awards for its Digital Video “Success is a Future as Unique as You”; the Digital Publication “Teaching for Transformation 2021”; and Outstanding Work in blogs.

“This is difficult because we have a very small group of people who do all of this here. We have our media director, our videographer, a writer and a graphic artist, so there's only four people who work on this and for them to be able to pull together a campaign over a year's time is pretty herculean,” Ball said.

The competition included more than 1,000 submissions from colleges, universities and secondary schools across the nation.

All EDM submissions, made last year around the holiday season, were judged by a national panel of higher education professionals in the marketing and advertising field, as well as the EDM editorial board. The awards are endorsed by the Higher Education Marketing Report and recognize the best digital content, electronic communications, mobile media, social media and educational websites. AC learned about the winning of the awards on Jan. 19.

“It was definitely a difficult year to get anything done for people all across the world and the fact that our team came together to create such impactful and beautiful pieces that spoke to students in such a time of need, I think I'd really impressive and a great accomplishment,” said Sadie Newsome, media director for AC.

“We continuously strive to meet our students where they are and put out messaging that is relevant to their lives. I think we did that this past year, and I think we are going to keep doing that as we move forward, that’s one of the things that sets us apart from other institutions,” Newsome added.
