On brink of Maryland championship game, Wi-Hi's strong basketball season ends in semifinal

The Wi-Hi boys basketball team's season came to an end tonight in the Class 2A State Semifinals, with the Tribe (23-2) falling to Prince George's County's Frederick Douglass (18-3), 66-48.

Wi-Hi went into the game in Silver Spring as the top-seed in Class 2A, and the first quarter was a tight one, with Douglass leading 19-16. Jaylin Dashiell-Andrews led Wi-Hi with 12 of their 16 points in the first quarter.

But from the second quarter and on was a much different story, with Douglass pressuring Wi-Hi, forcing turnovers and knocking down three-pointers to extend their lead to more than 20. Foul trouble didn't help Wi-Hi either, with BJ Cook saddled with four fouls in the first half, and Jayce Freeman with three.

After Douglass's huge second quarter, they coasted to victory in the second half, clinching a spot in the Class 2A title game and ending Wi-Hi's basketball season.
