Bristol shops, restaurants to host "Pour Tour" to celebrate best Main Street anniversary

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of its winning the Small Business Revolution contest for small towns sponsored by Deluxe Corp., Bristol Borough will hold a "Pour Tour" on Saturday as well as special sales at some of the many restaurants and retail establishments that now call the borough home.

Since its big win, "23 new businesses have opened on Mill Street and the adjacent streets. That's an amazing number, given the pandemic. Prior to the contest win, we had a commercial vacancy rate as high as 40%. Today it is less than 5% and each week we field inquiries about available space," said Bill Pezza, president of the Bristol Borough civic association, Raising the Bar.

"We were definitely on an upswing prior to winning the contest, but the exposure the win brought us helped things grow exponentially," Pezza said.

The "Pour Tour" will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the King George Inn on Radcliffe Street and four establishments on Mill Street: Itri, Naked Brewing, Hops & Hardware and the Mill Street Cantina.

Retail shops will participate as well with special sales and discounts, said Carla Sloan, a board member of both Raising the Bar and the Bristol Business Association.

Amanda Brinkman of the Deluxe Corp. which sponsored the contest is contributing a congratulatory video to be shown on the Raising the Bar Facebook and Instagram pages as well as on the borough's tourism website, www.visitbristolborough.com where information on the town's restaurants, bars and retail establishments can be found.
