Bristol, Virginia firefighters battle fire at former Virginia Intermont campus

BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — Firefighters in Bristol, Virginia responded to a structure fire at the former Virginia Intermont College on Monday evening.

According to a release from the City of Bristol, Virginia, firefighters responded to the fire at the former campus just after 5 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters reportedly found the fire burning in the swimming pool at the college. “Apparently trespassers had set fire to rubbish and it appears the fire got out of hand,” the City of Bristol, Virginia said in the release.

Firefighters stretched hose lines into the building and extinguished the fire. Additional crews then opened sections of the roof to ventilate the smoke.

The fire is considered suspicious, the release stated. No one was inside the building and no injuries were reported.

Crews from the three Bristol, Virginia Fire Department stations and Bristol, Tennessee Fire-Rescue responded to the scene.
