Hollywood actor Stanley Tucci presented Harry Styles with his fourth award for album of the year.

Picking up the gong for Harry’s House, Styles embraced the award presenter and said: “There is literally no one I love more than Stanley Tucci so this means so much. Thank you very much.

“This night has been really, really special to me and I’ll never forget it. Thanks for the welcome home…I’m so proud to be a British artist.”

Styles then lent his arm on Tucci as his collaborator Kid Harpoon delivered his acceptance speech.

Kid Harpoon said he was also “proud to be British” and is happy to work in music.

Harry has won Artist of the Year!

The star thanked his mother for signing him up to the X Factor, where he shot to fame as a member of One Direction.

He also thanked his former band members - Zayn, Liam, Niall and Louis.

He said: “Taking to the stage, he said: “I want to thank my family for being the most supportive, understanding, patient, loving family I could have ever asked for.

“I want to thank my mum for signing me up for The X Factor without telling me, so I literally wouldn’t be here without you.

“I want to thank Nile, Louis, Liam and Zayn because I wouldn’t be here without you either. Thank you so much.”

Harry then did a shot with host Mo Gilligan, before the latter introduced Lizzo’s performance.

Here’s him accepting his first gong of the night - Best Pop/R&B Act award.

Wet Leg’s acceptance speech

21:24 , Lizzie Edmonds

A shocked looking Wet Leg claimed their award for best new artist.

Rhian Teasdale appeared to poke fun at Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner’s acceptance speech at the 2014 ceremony by quoting it.

She said: “That rock and roll, hey. That rock and roll, it just won’t go away. It might hibernate for time to time, then sink back into the swamp.”

Laughing, she then added: “But in seriousness thank you so much. This is so scary because being on the telly can be such a boys’ club thing” before thanking all the women involved in making their debut album.

Who is Sam Capaldi?

21:22 , Lizzie Edmonds

Host Mo Gilligan fluffed his introduction to a performance by Lewis Capaldi by calling him Sam.

He later apologised - blaming the flowing alcohol for the mistake.

Capaldi performed Forget Me with a gospel choir.

According to our reporter Tina Campbell, Capaldi was spotted chatting to Shania Twain.... perhaps a collaboration is on the cards there?

Styles won Best Pop/R&B Act.

Harry Styles won the award for best pop/R&B act, which is voted for by the public via TikTok, continuing his success at the Grammys last week where he scooped album of the year.

After punching the air and taking to the stage, he thanked his fans before adding: “I have so many wonderful memories at the Brits so thank you for another one. It is so good to be home.”

And here is a little bit of his event-opening performance from earlier in the night.

Best Dance Act....

20:52 , Lizzie Edmonds

Becky Hill thanked her fans as she was handed Best Dance Act for the second year in a row.

Former footballer and TV presenter Alex Scott and actress Emily Atack presented the award.

The 28-year-old vocalist said: “It’s heavy, OK, wow, I did try and plan something but it might go to shit.”

She echoed Beyonce at the Grammys when she said “we have the queer community” to thank for dance music.

Tearfully, Hill added that she was touched by the comments on being nominated and felt she was getting over her “imposter syndrome”.

International Artist of the Year is...

20:51 , Lizzie Edmonds

Beyonce won the Brit Award for best international artist, beating Lizzo, Burna Boy, Kendrick Lamar and Taylor Swift.

The pop superstar was not present but in a video message said: “Thank you so much for this incredible recognition” before thanking her fans and adding: “The renaissance begins.”

The first winner has been announced...

Aitch has won Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act.

Actress Jodie Turner-Smith and footballer Declan Rice presented the award.

Aitch said: “Wow, I’m not going to lie, I never get scared…but I’m shitting myself.”

He thanked the fans for voting, his team and his record label and added “not many” people from where he is from in Manchester win awards.

“Big up everyone, respect. Thank you,” he added.

He is nominated four times – for album of the year for Harry’s House, song of the year for As It Was, artist of the year and best pop/R&B act.

He followed an opening skit by host Host Mo Gilligan in which he arrived at London’s O2 Arena via a helicopter organised by Lizzo.

Charli XCX on the issue of female and diverse representation

20:17 , Lizzie Edmonds

Brit nominee Charli XCX has spoke out on the issue of female and diverse representation.

The Brits have faced a backlash this year – their second with gender-neutral categories – after the best artist list was dominated entirely by men – with Central Cee, Fred Again, George Ezra, Styles and Stormzy featuring.

This was despite an increase in female artists or all-women groups across the board.

Charli XCX, who features among the pop/R&B nominees but missed out on best artist, said on the red carpet: “I heard that the reason that there aren’t any women nominated in the best artist category is that the Brits felt that there weren’t enough women in album cycle.

“But I was in album cycle and had a number one, critically acclaimed album, so yeah. That is really all I have to say.”

She later jokingly added: “I just know that I am iconic.”

Best new artist nominee Rina Sawayama on BRIT Award categories

20:10 , Lizzie Edmonds

Rina Sawayama, who is nominated in the best new artist category, said she supported the introduction of more music categories at the Brit Awards.

She told the PA news agency on the red carpet: “Sometimes you look at the Grammys and you are like, ‘What’s that category?’ and I think that is important because music isn’t just pop music. There is a lot of music that needs to be amplified. There are a lot of stories that need to be amplified and I just want to see it better.”

The singer, who has collaborated with Sir Elton John, also called for change inside the music industry to promote diverse voices.

She said: “At the top it is straight white men. It is. So the more you have of that, the more you are going to get amplified voices that are that. It is just something that we really need to work on because artists are diverse. There is a lot of diversity in artists but there is not enough diversity in record labels.”

Jessie J bares her baby bump

19:49 , Lizzie Edmonds

Jessie J showed off her baby bump on the red carpet as she arrived in a daring red outfit.

The singer, 34, announced she was pregnant in January – just over a year after announcing news of a miscarriage.

In the hours ahead of her arrival at the Brits, she revealed on Instagram that she is expecting a boy and also teased a new track called The Award Goes To.

Jessie J walked the carpet wearing a deep red co-ord with matching stilettos, showing off her growing bump.

She partnered the outfit with a voluminous shawl and carried an ornate metallic handbag, smiling for the cameras.

As she walked down the carpet, she joked that she could “really do with a snack”.

She added: “I just literally teased a new song an hour ago. It wasn’t even really a planned thing…You have got to do what you have got to do.”

Sam Smith dons latex bodysuit for Brits red carpet

19:38 , Lizzie Edmonds

Sam Smith delivered a striking black look on the Brit Awards red carpet.

The Grammy-winning singer, known for their boundary-breaking looks, wore what appeared to be an inflatable latex bodysuit with bulbous arms and legs.

Smith, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, paired the piece with chunky platform heals in matching black.

Their eye-catching look comes after they and Kim Petras won the Grammy for best pop duo/group performance at last week’s ceremony in Los Angeles.

The pair will perform again together later in the night.

Smith was among those who spoke out in favour of genderless categories before the Brits adopted them.

However, they were also critical of the event this year after the best artist category featured no women.
