British PM urges seizure of frozen Russian assets

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called on Western nations to take more decisive action in seizing frozen Russian assets, as reported in his Sunday Times column on February 25, according to Reuters.
“We must be bolder in striking at the Russian military economy... And we must be bolder in confiscating hundreds of billions of frozen Russian assets,” the British prime minister said.

Sunak also emphasized that Ukraine continues to need more long-range weapons, drones, ammunition, and other assistance.
Additionally, the Prime Minister of Great Britain called on the United States to continue providing financial and military support to Ukraine.

“We should never underestimate what America has done for Ukraine and Euro-Atlantic security. I urge them to continue this support, and I am confident they will do so,” Sunak noted.
It was previously reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for transferring frozen Russian assets abroad to Ukraine, amounting to about $300 billion.
The U.S. Senate Committee approved a bill to help confiscate Russian assets and transfer them to Ukraine for infrastructure restoration on Jan. 24.
The EU Council approved a resolution allowing the use of proceeds from frozen Russian assets for Ukraine on Feb. 12, 2024. This decision enables the Council to adopt a decision on a possible financial contribution to the EU budget, collected from this net income, to support Ukraine and its reconstruction at a later stage.
