British Prime Minister Johnson announces Covid omicron variant detected in U.K.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that two cases of the omicron Covid-19 variant, first discovered in southern Africa, have been detected in the U.K. The prime minister also said that scientists “don’t yet exactly know how effective” vaccines will be against omicron, but that they “will provide at least some measure of protection” from the emerging variant.
