British Soap Awards 2023 confirm longlist nominees and voting change

British Soap Awards bosses have announced a voting change for the 2023 ceremony.

The viewer-voted longlist nominees have been released today (April 11), putting more power into the hands of the public.

As with previous years, fans can vote for the Best Leading Performer and Best British Soap prize.

However, in a change for the 2023 ceremony, Best Villain has switched back to being a viewer-voted category for the first time since 2014. It was judged by the panel between 2015 and 2022.

The Best Young Performer category has also moved to being voted for by the public rather than the panel.

First-round viewer voting has opened today on the British Soap Awards website and will close on April 25 at 5pm.

Second round voting will open on May 2 at 10am and close on June 2 at 5pm. At this stage, the Best Leading Performer category will be whittled down to five nominees.

The rest of the categories will be decided by a panel of judges and these nominations will be announced in due course.
