Calling all soap fans, it won’t be long until the British Soap Awards is back on our screens. We’ll see stars gather from the usual series, including Coronation Street, Emmerdale, EastEnders, Doctors and Hollyoaks. This time the awards will be fronted by Jane McDonald after Phillip Schofield stepped down from ITV following a scandal.
McDonald announced the news on Instagram, saying “I’m so excited to be this years host for The British Soap Awards!!”
She continued: “Everyone knows how much I LOVE my soaps, this year I’ve been honoured to be mentioned in Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale so this is just a dream come true.
“I can’t wait to see all our wonderful soap nominees and celebrate all their hard work with them - roll on the awards, I can’t wait!”
Organisers of the British Soap Awards also shared a statement: “We’re pleased to announce our host for The British Soap Awards 2023...the fabulous Jane McDonald! As a super huge soap fan she’s in for a treat as we celebrate all our wonderful soaps in a star studded glittering event that airs this Tuesday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.”
Schofield has presented the ceremony from 2006 to 2022 but stepped down after admitting to having an affair with a younger staff member at ITV.
