MARTINSVILLE, Ind. — A western Indiana woman admitted in court to participating in a robbery that resulted in the death of an Indianapolis man in 2019 in northern Morgan County.

Britney Overton, 27, of Mecca, pleaded guilty Wednesday to robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 2 felony, in Morgan County Superior Court, records show.

As part of the agreement, Overton waived her right to appeal the guilty verdict, though she maintains the right to challenge the length of her sentence. She faces a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 30 years in state prison.

Overton and Justin Blake, 21, of Indianapolis, were charged in October 2020 in connection with the homicide of 23-year-old Alexander Dashiell Jackson, whose body was found on Mann Road in September 2019.

Detectives relied on a myriad of evidence, including witness testimony, DNA evidence and pings from nearby phone towers that placed Overton and Blake's cellphones at the crime scene at the time of the shooting, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Friends and family members described Jackson, who was from Springfield, Illinois, as a promising young man who struggled with drug addiction.

In February, a jury found Blake guilty of murder following a week-long trial in which Overton gave testimony. Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega made the case that Blake shot Jackson in the back of the head as he was running for his life.

During that trial, Blake's attorney, Ryan Dillon, pointed to Overton's criminal history and argued that she had more to do with the murder than Blake did.

After being found guilty, Blake was later sentenced to 61 years in prison.

Overton's sentencing hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. on June 9, at which time family members of Jackson can present victim impact statements.
