Update 4/16/20:

When words fail, emoji speak.

On Wednesday, Justin Timberlake responded to Britney Spears's Instagram post in which she unabashedly admitted she still considers her ex-boyfriend a musical genius.

Timberlake commented on Spears's post with a string of emoji, first with a laughing face followed by three raised hands, praising the unexpected compliment.

Spears's little sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, chimed in on the clip as well, commenting, "Blogs are already plotting their outrageous stories...you keep having fun and looking cute tho!!"

Original Story 4/15/20:

Britney Spears took to her Instagram today to broadcast her usual everyday goings-on—a filtered clip of her showing off her impeccable body, cut off shorts and a summery crop top while also playfully sticking out her tongue for the camera. But this time—this time, friends!—Britney added a dose of the unthinkable: She acknowledged the existence of her ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake. Please, somebody get Jessica Biel on the line.

Who can forget the infamous year that was 2002? Before there was Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez or Nick Jonas and Miley Cyrus, there was Britney and Justin, who easily created the mold for popstar couples to come. Clearly today, Spears was feeling nostalgic as she soundtracked her Instagram post to her ex-lover's underrated track "Filthy" from his last album, Man of the Woods.

"This is my version of Snapchat or TikTok or whatever the cool thing you're supposed to do these days 😅😅😅💃!!!!! As you can see I’m not really dancing folks …… I’m just very bored 🙄," Spears captioned the video alongside a slew of enthusiastic emojis. "PS I know we had one of the world's biggest breakups 20 years ago …… but hey the man is a genius !!!! Great song JT ✨ !!!!"

To this day, fans don't know the true story behind their breakup—both Spears and Timberlake have inferred to the two cheating on each other at separate times and both created iconic pop hits inspired by their failed relationship. (Ever heard of two songs titled "Cry Me A River" and "Toxic"?) After their relationship's demise Spears went on to have two children with ex-husband Kevin Federline (and is now dating model Sam Asghari) and Timberlake went on to marry actress Jessica Biel whom he shares a son with.

Spears's post wasn't the first time she acknowledged the love of Timberlake's music however. According to Entertainment Weekly, in 2016 Spears mentioned she would love to collaborate with Timberlake in the studio again one day. And Timberlake ultimately approved.

"I have a 17 month old so I don’t get the headline news," Timberlake initially said regarding to having not heard the news. (Doubtful.) "[But]I’m accessible, give us a call!"
