There may be no national broadcaster who has visited Kansas City over the past five years as often as CBS Sports’ Jim Nantz.

As the lead broadcaster for the NFL on CBS, Nantz and his broadcast partner Tony Romo have called the last five AFC Championship Games at Arrowhead Stadium. They’ve also worked other postseason games and Chiefs’ regular-season contests, too.

Nantz will be back in Kansas City this weekend again, this time for a different sport. He’ll be joined by Bill Raftery and Grant Hill in calling the Midwest Regional semifinals and final at the T-Mobile Center. Tracy Wolfson is working as the network’s reporter.

It’s nearly the end of Nantz’s time as the lead play-by-play announcer in the NCAA Tournament. Nantz worked as host of CBS Sports’ tournament coverage from 1986-90, then started calling games in 1991.

Nantz previously announced he will step away from working NCAA Tournament games after the Final Four in Houston, which is where he attended college.

In a conference call earlier this month, Nantz was asked about the possibility of calling his alma mater in a national-championship game in Houston.

“I’ll be able to be a neutral observer of that game. ... I would definitely be able to call that game,” Nantz said. “I’m trained to be able to look at things objectively, observe, and tell people what I see. ...

“I’ve always been asked what was my favorite moment in my career. I’ve broadcast in some capacity 37 Final Fours, eight Super Bowls, this will be my 38th Masters. My favorite memory ever was to call Fred Couples’ win at the 1992 Masters. My college roommate. We used to practice that scene in college in our dorm room. ... But if Houston made it to the Final Four and even won the national championship, this would be right up there as one of the top two moments of my career.”

Nantz will be calling Houston’s game Friday against Miami. Here are the broadcast assignments for the entire slate of Sweet 16 games. (All times Central)
