Broadway star pops into Tarrytown Music Hall to offer 'Mary Poppins' acting tips

TARRYTOWN - The planned production of "Mary Poppins Jr." received some expert coaching Tuesday when Ashley Brown, who originated the starring role on Broadway, popped in.

Brown coached the kids in the Music Hall Academy's two-week theater camp, directed by Jordan Singer.

Brown played Mary Poppins in Broadway from its opening in 2006 to 2008 and again in 2011.

The academy provides theater education programming for kids from kindergarten to college age.

It offers summer and winter programs; offers music lessons and residencies in the Tarrytowns school district; and brings kids to Broadway shows.

The academy offers pay-as-you-can programs.

The current summer break theater program for children in grades 4-12 stages "Mary Poppins Jr.," starring 14-year-old Kerry Hunter of New Rochelle as that mysteriously magical English nanny.

Performance takes place at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4. Tickets can be found at tickets.tarrytownmusichall.org/.

Later this month, a camp for grades 4-12 will showcase "Myth Detectives." Information is available at the Tarrytown Music Hall Academy website, tarrytownmusichall.org, under the "arts education" tab.
