(KRON) — Chubba Purdy, the younger brother of San Francisco 49ers star quarterback Brock Purdy, previously committed to play football at San Jose State, a move that would bring him to the Bay Area with his brother. Now, it appears that is not happening.

Purdy announced Monday that he is flipping his commitment to the University of Nevada.

The switch comes after San Jose State’s previous head coach Brent Brennan moved to the University of Arizona. Without the coach who recruited him to the South Bay, Purdy opted to find a different home.

In Brennan’s place, San Jose State tapped Ken Niumatalolo to be its new coach. Niumatalolo coached football for the United States Naval Academy from 2007-22.

Chubba Purdy started his career at Florida State and spent the last two seasons at Nebraska. Nevada will be the third stop of his collegiate career.

For his career, he’s completed 52.1% of his passes, and thrown six touchdowns and seven interceptions. He will join a Nevada team that went 2-10 last season.
