When The Enterprise recently crunched the numbers for the highest-paid Brockton employees, there were some staggering paychecks, including two police officers who topped $400,000 a year in total compensation — thanks in no small part to paid details. Expenses of details are covered by the government agency or company that needs it, but it still passes through police departments in order to get to the officers. This got us wondering whatever happened to former Gov. Deval Patrick's efforts to rein in these huge costs by switching in some cases to civilian flaggers on worksites.

In pursuit of dethroning the dynasty, Arthur Zelmati and Zak Kovat gave it all they had. The tandem birdied on the 16th hole to set up a grand finish. It's rare that the Tasho team is pushed to the brink at the end of the Brockton Golf Association's Four Ball Golf Tournament. Steve Tasho Sr., with help from an array of sidekicks over the years, has earned the top spot 16 times since 1978. At 14-under through three days and 198 total strokes, the father-son duo from Easton walked off the green with smiles and a collective exhale. It was their fourth tournament win in five years.
