Former Super Bowl champion named Brockton High's new head football coach

Former New England Patriot and current WEEI co-host Jermaine Wiggins has been named Brockton High's new head football coach, the school announced Thursday. Wiggins takes over for Peter Colombo, who retired at the end of last season after a 20-season tenure with the Boxers that featured a 132-72 overall record, five Super Bowl appearances and two consecutive championships in 2004 and 2005.

Step inside Bridgewater's new comic bookstore with a vintage arcade and retro 80s vibe

A local couple opened a vintage arcade and comic bookstore to gives kids a blast from the past. The owners, Steve DeMita and Heather DeMita, opened Steve's Comics & Collectables as a passion project. The comic bookstore sells dozens of new and old series while keeping the retro 80s vibe. In addition, the two built an arcade with all original games, including Pac-Man and Donkey Kong, to indulge in their childhood nostalgia.

Brockton's North Side will be losing its HarborOne branch — Here's why and what to know

It looks like the latest victim of the COVID-era shift to doing just about everything virtually is the Montello branch of HarborOne Bank on North Main Street. HarborOne — which at the time was called Brockton Credit Union — opened the branch at 820 North Main St. more than 30 years ago, in 1992. Now, HarborOne, which is headquartered in Brockton, has petitioned the Massachusetts Division of Banks for permission to close the Montello branch.

East Bridgewater High softball team has a bright future and a promising present

There were a lot of moving parts, but East Bridgewater High softball pitcher Maggie Schlossburg has already zeroed in on a favorite memorable moment just four games into her freshman campaign, among the many made in the Vikings' 4-0 start. Schlossburg and her teammates zipped a game-ending triple-play around the diamond to seal a 7-3 win over league rival Abington last week.

Brockton police searching for suspect after man shot on Cottage Street

A man was shot Saturday night, April 8, on Cottage Street, Brockton police Spokesperson Darren Duarte said. Just before 6 p.m., police responded to the Cottage Street area after ShotSpotter, the city's electronic gunshot detection system, provided an alert that eight shots were fired, he said. "Emergency medical service transported a 20-year-old male victim to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg," a statement from the police said. The Brockton police are continuing to investigate the shooting and have not yet identified a suspect or determined a motive.
